About Us
Kowad, a small village, on the bank of Tampraparni river, issituated at the southern region of Kolhapur District. It is a birth place of renowned Marathi writer “ Swamikar” ‘Padmashree Ranjeet Desai.’ The place is also known as ‘Kini-Karyat region’ spreads at the boarder of Belgaum district in Karnataka state. The region is the rural, economically backward and also deprived of higher education. The students had to go 35 to 65 km to take higher education . Due to poor economy many students had been deprived of higher education. To fulfill their need, some philoanthropologists from the region came together and established Sarvoday Shikshan Sanstha in 1995. The founder and the most of the directors are highly educated persons. Some are academic schemes and teachers, social workers and farmers. The sanstha started the degree college with Arts faculty in 1995 to bring the boys and girls of poor and deprived classes into the stream of higher education and give fill-up to girls education. Initially, the college was started with only 55 students in Kowad, abazaar place, hiring Variousrooms for classes. In 1998-99 the management bought 2 acres of land with poultry shades, 1.5 km away from Kowad.
The management council did not have any political or economical support. The council raised the fund on their own self to provide basic facilities for the students and staff. Later on the poultry shades developed into the college building. Since, then, with the changing scenario of education, the sanstha and the college have been taking hard effort to facilitate higher education.
It tries to impart professional education, undertakes skill, development programs, improve the quality of education and achieve excellence, trained student for competitive examination, undertake entrepreneur development activities and inculcate moral and ethical values in the students.
In 2007 the management started commerce degree programmeand in 2008, started BCA ( Professional education) to meet the continuous demand of the people & students in the region. In 2016, we started B.Sc. degree programme to facilitate higher education in science. With such continuous and sustained efforts the sanstha tries to meet the demands of the people and the students regarding higher education.
About College
The Arts, Commerce and Science College, Kowad, situated in a rural and hilly area of Kolhapur District of Maharashtra State was established by a management, named Sarvoday Shikshan Sanstha, in August 1995. The management consists of educated philanthropists, who had undergone severe hardship in their school days and college days, formed this management. The college is affiliated to Shivaji University, Kolhapur, secured the status of a grant-in-aid college in 2003. At present the college provides the degree programs in Arts, Commerce, B.C.A. and B.Sc. education to the nearby village students.
Our college tried our level best to solve recommendation made by the Peer-team at the time of Re-accreditation in a positive manner. Our Internal Quality Assurance Cell planned and implemented various activities meticulously to perceive excellence and to accelerate quality development of the institute. With our efforts to bring excellence by offering new courses, more and more facilities in academic as well as in extra-curricular activities for students and faculty, by implementing innovative practices for the institute and community, we are quite sure to reach our destination i. e. through quality education, by preparing them for self–reliance. In the course of 24 years, the college has marked progress in quality and quantity. It has consistently been starving to contribute in nation building by empowering the youths and inculcating multidimensional and holistic culture in them through educational, need-based, value-added and skill-based certificate courses as well as through co-curricular and extra-curricular activities. The overall academic, cultural and social performance of the college has been excellent since its inception. It was accredited with C++ grade by NAAC in the post reaccreditation period the college has taken every possible effort to sustain and enhance quality measures in all its spheres. As a result in Re-accreditation we get ‘B’ grade (CGPA 2.47) by NAAC in 2013.
The college is conscious about the socio-economic background of its students. Majority of the students are from hilly area. Therefore, the college aimed to discipline the minds of these students and make them aware about the competitive nature of world. At present our college offered graduation in four disciplines namely B.A.; B.Com. B. C. A. (Self-financed professional course) and B.Sc.
